OWNERS

Jamie and Kay Fred owners of the Fred Ranch have been known in the seed stock business for 30 years. Headquartered near Rose, NE. they raise and merchandise purebred Angus and Charolais breeding stock. Jamie’s family was one of the first purebred Charolais breeders of Nebraska. Jamie had a few Charolais cows when he and Kay were married in 1971, those cattle were put out on shares when the couple went to work for Angus breeder Melvin Slagle, Sargent, NE. It was at that time they purchased their first 10 head of Angus cows. Jamie moved on to a job with Williams and Williams ranch near Ainsworth, NE. with the chance to rent some grass and expand thier black and white herds. They went on their own in 1985, leasing a place near Newport, NE. In 1991 they bought their ranch at Rose. Jamie grew up on a registered Charolais outfit at Sargent, NE , but Kay was raised on a commercial cow ranch. The pair did share enthusiasm for cattle, horse, and rodeo, however, and that enthusiasm spilled over onto their children Holly and Stoney . Through the ranks of the different level of 4-H cattle shows, sales, High School Rodeo, College Rodeo, Amature and Professional Rodeo and USTRC Team Roping events, ----it’s a lifetime of wealth that can’t be measured.

COW HERD

Their cow herd is on a Sandhills ranch of native grasses. Both breeds are run together except during breeding season. At this time an extensive AI program is used in maintaining moderate birth rates and frame scores while maximizing performance and carcass merit. Alfalfa is purchased and fed along with the hay put up from the ranch. Commercial feed is purchased to supplement the two. Fred's Angus and Charolais have hosted 14 annual bull sales, with next year making some changes. Their bulls will be sold at private treaty from the ranch. Updated flyers will be sent to years of repeat customers as well as new bull customers. They have sold females from the Denver Stock Show to several places in the U.S. as well as Argentina, Canada, and Old Mexico. They also have been foundation sellers in the Nebraska Cattleman’s Classic show and sale at Kearney , NE., showing several class winners and reserve champions. Many females have been purchased off the ranch for other cattlemen to go on with them from the show ring to the cow herd. They will continue to market their females the same. Customer satisifaction is a number one priority at the Fred Ranch , where you’re a stranger only once!!! Visitors and calls are always welcome.
